Many Delta State students have settled into the lap of luxury with the opening of Foundation Hall. The new, three-story, co-residential hall contains 182 units accommodating 362 beds with lounges, study/computer rooms, common kitchens, and laundry facilities on each level.

The new facility stands adjacent to the Young-Mauldin Cafeteria where Bond-Carpenter and Whittington-Williams halls once stood on the south side of the campus.

“Everyone, from our students, their parents, the campus community and the Cleveland community, is very excited about the new hall and all that it has to offer,” said Director of Housing and Residence Life Julie Jackson. “It has been a long journey, but well worth the wait.”

Delta State used an innovative, privatized method for financing the construction of the new residence hall and a new 32-unit housing complex for faculty and staff that recently opened. The Delta State Foundation created Statesmen Housing LLC to issue bonds to finance the construction. The university will manage the building and revenue collected from rental fees to pay the debt service. Delta State is the first university in the state to employ this method of funding.

“Research shows that students who live on campus perform better academically and value their university experience more than those who do not,” said Vice President of Finance and Administration Greg Redlin. “The amenities of a facility such as this should add to a positive college experience for our students.”
