Delta State University to co-host tree workshop

Delta State University, along with the Mississippi Urban Forest Council, the Mississippi Forestry Commission and Mississippi State University Extension Service will host a clinic entitled “Trees and Our Community” a Delta Region Community Forestry workshop from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on May 20, in the Baioni Conference Center of Broom Hall on the Delta State campus.

 
The workshop is designed for anyone wanting to learn about trees and green spaces. It will be especially helpful for home owners, business owners, developers, foresters, city workers, nurserymen, city leaders and others managing land and trees.
 
Some of the topics that will be covered in the workshop include: tree selection and planting; planting trees for maximum benefits; when a storm strikes – preparedness and caring for trees after a storm; heritage oak trees; hazard trees – repair or replace; protecting trees during construction; and fire wise planting activities.
 
The workshop is funded by an Urban & Community Forestry Grant from the Mississippi Forestry Commission, in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service and the Southern Group of State Foresters. Landscape architects, foresters, engineers, elected officials, parks and recreation planners, Urban Forest Masters, tree specialist, and others, are eligible for continuing education credit. This program is part of the Urban Forest Masters Training.
