The Delta State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. John Wojcik, will perform in concert on Tuesday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Delta and Pine Land Theatre of the Bologna Performing Arts Center.

The concert will open with the timehonored classic, “American Salute”by Morton Gould. This work is a symphonic rendition of the popular tune, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home.”

Second on the program will be “Blue Shades”by Frank Ticheli.  As implied by the title, jazz shadings permeate the piece and occasionally reach climactic proportions.  Eric Whitacre’s beautifully flowing “Lux Arumque”will follow.

Fourth on the program will be the “Suite for Solo Flute, Clarinet and Alto Sax”by Claude T. Smith. The featured soloist will be Dr. Bret Pimentel, Delta State instructor of woodwinds. Pimentel will perform on the flute, clarinet, and also saxophone during the suite.

The Wind Ensemble will bring the concert to a close with the rousing "Tempered Steel,”by Charles Rochester Young.

The Delta State Wind Ensemble is the university’s premiere large instrumental organization. Its membership is determined by auditions that take place at the beginning of the fall semester and again at the beginning of the spring semester.

The concert will be free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Delta State Music Department at (662) 846-4615.
