Six vie for Miss Delta State University title

Six Delta State students will be competing for the title of Miss Delta State University 2010 Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the university campus.

    

Rachel Baber, Amber Ray, Rebecca Bailey, Mary Mac Drake, Brittany Bradford and Ashley Bates will be competing for a chance to represent Delta State at the Miss Mississippi Pageant this summer. The contestants will compete in interview, evening wear, talent, swimsuit and on-stage question.

      

Baber, a 20 year old from Saraland, Alabama, is majoring in Music with an emphasis in Vocal Performance.  For her talent, she will be singing a pop song.

      

Ray, 21, an Elementary Education major from Hernando will be performing Debussy’s “Pour le Piano Prelude #2” for her talent.

 

Bailey, a 21 year old from Pearl, is majoring in Graphic Design. She will perform a modern/contemporary dance to “Happy.”

      

Drake, 19, is an Interdisciplinary Studies/Delta Music Institute major from Port Gibson. For her talent, she will singing “I Just Can’t Live a Lie” by Carrie Underwood.

 

Bradford, an 18 year-old from Cleveland, is majoring in Biology/Pre-Dental.  She will be performing “Jump In the Line” from the movie “Beetlejuice” on the steel drum for her talent.

 

Bates, 22, is a Chemistry/Biology major from Lucedale. For her talent, she will perform a baton dance routine to “Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood.

 

The winner of the pageant will be crowned by Lacey Mixon, Miss Delta State University 2009.

 

The theme of this year’s pageant is “This Is It,” with various hits of Michael Jackson to be performed. Erik Taylor is serving as musical director for the pageant, and Sarah Brumfield is serving as choreographer. 

 

In addition to the reigning Miss Delta State University, those featured in this year’s musical production will be Fallon Brown, Sarah Brumfield, Angela Carter, Bradley Davis, Megan Frazier, Bashara Grose, Michael Lipford, Ashley Brown Owen, Maci Palasini, Marya Paolillo, Bryan Strickland, De’Lisha Wiggins, Jeanna Wilkes, Christopher Winston, and Kayla Woods.  These singers and dancers will be accompanied by the production band, composed of John Andy Bowen, guitar, Greg Cobb, drums, Naz Rhodes, bass, and Erik Taylor, piano. James Donald Cooper will serve as emcee for the event.

 

The pageant is produced by the University Pageant Board and sponsored by the Student Government Association.  Mrs. Linda Ross serves as the executive director and Katy Smith serves as student director of the pageant.

           

Admission for the general public is $6 and admission for Delta State students, faculty and staff is $3 with proper identification.
