Delta State to host Alabama-Mississippi Sociological Association meeting

The 2010 annual meeting of the Alabama-Mississippi Sociological Association (A-MSA) will be held Thursday, Feb. 18 – Friday, Feb. 19, on the campus of  Delta State University.

 
The theme for the meeting is “Sense of Place and the Sociological Imagination.” Meeting highlights and events include:
  • Pre-conference workshops on youth development and regional fresh food initiatives
  • Presidential address by John J. Green
  • Paper, panel and poster sessions offering the latest scholarship on research and teaching
  • Reception at the DSU Archives and Museum with refreshments and a photography exhibit
  • Awards banquet with keynote speaker Katie Kerstetter from Washington, DC
  • Cultural experiences highlighting and celebrating the uniqueness of the Mississippi Delta and the region’s importance to the world
  • The A-MSA business meeting
 
All A-MSA conference events will be held in the H.L. Nowell Student Union, with the exception of the pre-banquet reception at the Capps Archives and Museum.
 
Membership is $20 for faculty, and $5 for students, conference registration is $25 for faculty, $5 students, $45 for non-members, and the optional awards banquet is $25 for faculty/non-members and $15 for students.
 
Fees may be paid online at www.a-msa.org, or onsite at the registration desk. Organizers of this event strongly encourage participants to pre-register by Feb. 11.
 
The 2010 meeting is being jointly organized through the Delta State University Division of Social Sciences and the Center for Community and Economic Development.
 
Dr. John Green, Associate Professor of Sociology and Community Development at Delta State, is currently serving as President of A-MSA, and the Program Chair for the 2010 meeting is Deborah Moore, Director of the Center for Community and Economic Development.
