Delta State Hosts annual High School Choir Festival

A total of 150 of the most talented high school choir students from across the state will gather on the campus of Delta State University, Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 14, as Delta State hosts its annual Honor Choir festival.

 

These talented students were selected by audition to participate in the festival by members of the Delta State music faculty.

 

Dr. Christopher Aspaas, assistant professor of choral/vocal music at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., will be the guest conductor.

 

In addition to his responsibilities at St. Olaf, Aspaas is the conductor of Magnum Chorum, a Twin Cities chamber choir recognized for expressive singing and inspired programs. He holds degrees in music from St. Olaf College, Michigan State University, and Florida State University.

 

The choir will be accompanied by Dr. Kumiko Shimizu, assistant professor of piano at Delta State.

 

The three-day festival concludes with a performance on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Delta and Pine Land Theatre of the Bologna Performing Arts Center on the campus.
