Delta State to offer free tax preparation and financial education

The Center for Community and Economic Development at Delta State University has been designated an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) site for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. 

This program is made possible by a $7500 grant from the National Community Tax Coalition, a project of the Center for Economic Progress in Chicago, Illinois, and through the collaborative partnership of Delta State University’s College of Business and the AmeriCorps*VISTA program. 
The VITA program will offer free tax help to individuals who earn less than $49,000. Certified IRS volunteers will assist individuals to help with special credits such as, Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit, and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.
In addition to free tax return preparation assistance, this program will offer free financial literacy training. 
Tax preparation services will be offered Jan. 25 – Feb.27 on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:30-6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and  March 1 – April 15 on Mondays from 3:30-6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.- noon.
The VITA tax preparation site is located at the Center for Community and Economic Development at 1417 College Street in Cleveland.
