The Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) is hosting a second free workshop on Drumming and Dance in West Africa as part of the Juliet Kossman ArtsPass series on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m.- noon at the BPAC.

Dr. Karen Fosheim, professor of music at Delta State, will present this workshop, which will be an exploration of the culture of West Africa through drumming, dance, and song.

Participants will learn the basic techniques of African djembe drumming and play traditional African drumming rhythms in an ensemble consisting of djembe and dundun drums, balafons, bells, and shakers.

They will also learn the dances and songs that accompany the drumming rhythms. A mini-performance will conclude the workshop.

The workshop is for children ages 5-8. Early registration is encouraged due to limited class size of 15 participants.

To register or for more information, please call the BPAC at (662) 846-4844.
