Delta State to present Ensembles in Opera Oct. 8

The Delta State University Opera will present Ensembles in Opera Thursday, Oct. 8, at 1:40 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Bologna Performing Arts Center. 

 
The production will highlight some of the well-known duets, trios, quintets,and sextets in the operatic repertoire.
 
Dr. Mary Lenn Buchanan, professor of music and Delta State opera director says,“Characters in opera fall in love, fuss and fight, and experience every aspect of human life. It is the ensembles in opera which allow the composer to bring all the thoughts and feelings together to create a culmination of emotions.”
 
Scenes from four works will be preformed. Those works are “Le nozze di Figaro” and “Cosi fan tutte” by W.A, Mozart, “La Cenerentola” by Gioachino Rossini, and ” Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss. 
 
The students singing the roles include freshman Josh Terry of Olive Branch and Kevin McCray of Brandon; sophomores Tyrek McKinley and Brittany Moxley of Greenville; Minda Starling of Mantachie; Christopher Winston of Daphne, Ala., and Rachel Baber of Saraland, Ala.
 
Juniors Heather Bunkley of Pearl, Joshua Reeves of Walls, Jody Blake of Saltillo, Dominique Smith of Greenville, and Kristen Credille of Red Bay, Ala., and seniors Chiquita Allen of Shelby, Lindsey Roy of Greenville, and Sarah Eads of Hernando. 
 
Gene Kachenovich a senior from Olive Branch serves as assistant to the director and stage manager.
 
Dr. Kumiko Shimizu, assistant professor of music and coach/accompanist for the Delta State Opera will be providing the accompaniment for all of the productions.
