Fourteen year old Emmett Till supposedly whistled at Carolyn Bryant in this store in August of 1955, and his subsequent murder is widely viewed as one of the events that sparked the Civil Rights Movement. Pictured with the students are Art Coordinator Pat Brown (far left) and Delta Center Program Coordinator Lee Aylward (in white). |
