Delta State’s Simmons Scholarship announced

The Delta State University Department of Social Work Debbie Simmons Scholarship Award recipient is Ruth Henderson (at right), a senior social work major of Greenville.

This scholarship is awarded to a social work student at Delta State at the end of the last three semesters of the degree program. The recipient must have a 3.0 or above grade-point-average and be recommended by faculty and agency social work supervisor for lab work, and field instruction. The total scholarship of $3000 will be given over three semesters. The recipient should be dedicated, motivated and want to succeed in social work.
 
As a memorial to Debbie Simmons, who graduated from Delta State with a Bachelor of Social Work in 1990, her husband, Calvin Simmons, and children, have established an awards program in the Delta State University Department of Social Work to honor excellence in social work in the Delta.
 
The award was announced during the Delta State Department of Social Work’s Margaret Tullos Field Symposium held March 4, in the Henry J. Jacobs Conference Center of James M. Ewing Hall on the campus.
