Delta State to host 2009 High School Honor Band Clinic

Delta State University will host the 2009 Honor Band clinic beginning Thursday, Jan. 29. The event’sculminating concert will be on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. inside the Bologna Performing Arts Center on campus. 
 

This year’s Honor Band is comprised of 100 of the most talented students in Mississippi representing more than 30 of the state’s high schools. These students earned their place in the ensemble through auditions that took place during the fall 2008 semester.
The clinic begins with check-in on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m. in Zeigel Hall. The students will have their first rehearsal that evening followed by a choice of swimming, use of Wyatt gymnasium or watching a movie. 
 
On Friday, the students will continue rehearsing in preparation for the concert on Saturday.
 
This year’s guest clinician will be Dr. William Clark, director of bands emeritus at the University of New Mexico and former director of bands at Delta State University. 
 
The exciting programwill feature selections chosenby Clark from the following: “Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna,” by Franz von Suppe, arranged by Robert E. Foster, “Polka and Fugue,” by Jaromir Weinberger, arranged by Glenn Bainum, “First Suite for Band,”by Alfred Reed, “Emblem of Unity,”a march by J.J. Richards and “Ave Maria,”by Frank Ticheli.
