Delta State set to celebrate 34th annual Springfest

By April 4, 2006General

Delta State University is preparing for its 34th annual Springfest, to be held on the quadrangle of the campus, Wednesday, April 5, with activities scheduled between 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Springfest 2006 will feature games, food and festivities on the quad, with “Wax Hands” making its debut on the University campus as part of the day’s highlights. The fun begins when participants are asked to dip their hands into warm, soothing wax until a mold is formed, removed and then colored in one of more than 32 color combinations.

Henna tattooing will also be made available on the quad, as well as an inflatable bungee run, Velcro wall and solid rock climbing wall. Delta State’s Union Program Council will also sponsor “An Adrenaline Rush Obstacle Course” for the day. Participants can jump, crawl, climb, squeeze and slide their way through an upheaval of obstacles in what is promised to be “an adrenaline rush.”

Whild Peach and The Breakfast Club will share twin billing in an evening concert inside Walter Sillers Coliseum. The concert is slated to begin at 7 p.m. and is free to all Delta State students, faculty and staff. There will be a $5 admission fee for the general public.

With appearances on Saturday Night Live, HBO’s Chris Rock Show, the 2002 Grammy Awards, MTV’s TRL, and the David Letterman Show, Whild Peach are proven performers. This soul-rock, slam-down group’s tight ensemble includes guitarist/vocalist David Whild, lead vocalist Peach, drummer Tuesday Henderson, bassist Blu Gomes, guitarist Matt Hollums and keyboardist/vocalist Hezekiah Nixon.

The Breakfast Club will take to the stage second, with show time slated for approximately 9 p.m.

Formed in January of 1994 in Winston-Salem, NC, The Breakfast Club soared to new heights on the club and college circuit with the then original concept of playing nothing but early 80’s dance/keyboard-oriented cover music. Throughout the band’s history, various line-up changes have inevitably occurred. With Atlanta, as the group’s current home base, present musicians include: Michael Todd (vocals & guitar), Steven Campbell (vocals & bass), Mike Mundy (keyboards & vocals) and John Langdon (Simmons electronic drums & vocals).
