Local Government Leadership Institute

Local Government Leadership Institute’s

2019 Black Male Summit Registration

The Local Government Leadership Institute at Delta State University assists and supports local elected officials of the Mississippi Delta (i.e., mayors, city councilpersons, city alderpersons, municipal clerks, city managers, county administrators, and county supervisors) in addressing governance challenges by providing activities, basic training, and helpful tools needed to run their municipalities effectively and efficiently.

The Institute also seeks to cultivate and nurture a pipeline of future governing officials by offering students opportunities to work with and learn from local leaders and to develop first-hand knowledge of the building blocks essential to Mississippi’s economy.  To serve this interest, the Local Government Leadership Institute will host a Black Male Summit to begin professional development training and orientation to municipal leadership among traditionally marginalized Delta area youth.

The event targets African American male high school and college students attending schools in the Mississippi Delta (i.e., Bolivar, Carroll, Coahoma, Desoto, Holmes, Humphries, Issaquena, Leflore, Panola, Quitman, Sharkey, Sunflower, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tunica, Warren, Washington, and Yazoo) and aims to promote civic involvement, community engagement, and professional development among area youth to strengthen a pipeline of future municipal leaders.

Online Registration is now closed!  Contact Dr. T. Michael Simmons directly ((662) 846-4253 or tsimmons@deltastate.edu) if your group is not yet registered.
