You
may have noticed that OIT has implemented numerous changes over the

24/7 OIT Help
Desk In Service!
24/7
Help Desk – extension
4444 on campus or call 1-866-264-1465 toll-free off campus.
Delta State University and SunGard Higher Education are pleased to
introduce the new 24/7 Help Desk for the Delta State Community. The
24/7 help desk serves as your first point of contact for technology
support needs including account and password information, login issues,
report requests, Blackboard CE6 support, and desktop troubleshooting to
name just a few. If the help desk is unable to resolve your
request in a timely manner, the request is automatically escalated to the
Sungard Delta State OIT team for resolution. During August, the
24/7 Help Desk received over 1300 calls, resolving 59% of the calls on
the first call! We look for improved call wait times and resolution
times as the semester gets underway. We appreciate your patience as
we strive to improve our service offerings.

OIT-ELN
Network: Faculty Resource for Instructional Technology Support
Dr. Susan
Hines, the Director of Instructional Technologies, has developed the
Electronic Learning Network (ELN) an online resource that will soon be a favorite place for
faculty. The OIT-ELN located at http://eln.deltastate.edu provides instructional technology support for
the DSU community. The ELN offers a wide range of support to faculty (and
students) who use the Blackboard CE 6 course management system for
web-enhanced, hybrid/blended, and fully online
courses. A special mission of the OIT-ELN is to encourage and
support teaching and learning through the increased and appropriate use
of digital media in the instructional setting and, in particular, the
instructional setting online.
Checkout
the new ELN website as it includes many
new features including an instructional resource blog, workshop
schedules, information on the use of different types of media, as well as
news and information that will be especially useful for the DSU
Community. Look for more information in coming weeks on the ELN
website as well as the OIT newsletter.

Meet
“OKRAnet” - Cisco Wireless Mesh Deployed for Family Housing
OIT
continues to expand the wireless presence on the DSU campus.
During the spring semester, the modem bank that served family housing
failed and could not be repaired or replaced. This opened the
door to bring a new type of wireless technology onto the campus for the
family housing area. During July, OIT worked with Cisco and BCI
to install the latest in wireless technology, Cisco Wireless
Mesh. This installation provides for secure, authenticated access
for those residents of family housing. OKRAnet, the student
wireless network, is now officially in operation.
OIT
has worked closely with the housing department to provide login
information to those persons residing in family housing. The
system requires a secure authentication and students are using the
familiar DSU 900 ID#/Password to login to the system. Within the
immediate future, OIT will be rolling the entire student body into the
OKRAnet authentication piece to provide this service to the entire
student body. Also over the next few months, OIT will deploy
additional mesh antennas to provide increased wireless access on the
campus.
The Student Union, Java
City, and Kethley
Hall all have wireless access. The new Baioni Center
has wireless as well as the Jacob
Conference Center and portions of Ewing
and Broom. Secure access will soon be available in the cafeteria
and natatorium. Look for new locations to be announced soon.
