Network Maintenance Friday, September 15
All Services Affected

OIT must perform mandatory maintenance and updates on campus servers and other equipment.  In order to minimize disruption to the campus as a whole, this window has been scheduled for Friday, September 15, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m .  This outage is part of an ongoing maintenance plan scheduled every third Friday of every month. Software updates for all Windows servers will be applied and some minor hardware changes will be implemented.  During this time, you will experience an interruption of service for all network applications, including Internet Access, WebCT access, network access, network access, network printing, internet access, web applications, and One Card access.  We appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure a safe, reliable network infrastructure for Delta State.

Facebook hit with Privacy Protests from Users

Facebook.com has become the target of some very frustrated users and once again is in the news for serious privacy concern for Internet users.  To quote one Facebook customer, "Stalking is supposed to be hard.”  Facebook recently implemented a new tracking system that automatically notifies individuals when their friend's sites are updated.  The new feature has created a great deal of controversy among the primary target group for Facebook – college students.  Of their 9.5 million members, over 500,000 have already signed a formal petition to have the tracking feature disabled.  The move has prompted protest sites to call for a complete boycott of Facebook on September 12.  To read more on the new Facebook concerns see the USA Today Article

Transcript Requests

The Registrar's office is the authorizing agent on campus for access to transcripts for both students and faculty. OIT cannot provide access to print transcripts.   Faculty members can print transcripts of their advisees if the student is assigned as an advisee of that faculty member in Banner.  All department heads should have received an email from the Registrar's office on how to setup the faculty member as an advisor in Banner.  Students can print their unofficial transcripts at anytime by logging on to MyDSU or they can go by the Registrar's office for a copy.  Questions on transcripts or transcripts access can be directed to the Registrar's office.
