Network Outage

OIT must perform mandatory maintenance and updates on campus servers and other equipment.  In order to minimize disruption to the campus as a whole, this window has been scheduled for Friday, July 21, 2006 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  This outage is part of an ongoing maintenance plan scheduled every third Friday of every month. Software updates for all Windows servers will be applied and some minor hardware changes will be implemented.  During this time, you may experience an interruption of service. Applications that may be affected include network access, network printing, internet access, web applications, and One Card access.

University Switchboard

The University switchboard receives all incoming calls to 1-800-GOTO-DSU, all calls to 846-3000, and serves as an end point for the campus phone system. The switchboard is designed to pass calls from one central number to all areas of the campus. Many callers use the switchboard to inquire about directions to the campus, campus events, class information, and other important issues. However, this presents unique challenges in that when the attendant is on the switchboard with one caller, there is no way for the attendant to answer the second or subsequent incoming calls. This hardware limitation sometimes results in calls not being answered or callers experiencing long rings before the attendant can get to the next call on the line. We can assure you that the University Switchboard is manned by DSU students during normal business hours. You can help us in our efforts to better serve the campus community by using the online faculty/staff directory, as well as utilizing the published campus directory whenever possible. Without automation, this situation cannot be resolved with the current switchboard system. For the immediate future, if you do not receive an answer on the switchboard during business hours, please try again as the attendant was likely on the phone serving another caller. Thank you for your understanding and assistance as we strive to improve both service and communications to the campus.

Many door prizes were given away and some great presentations were made, as well as some awesome technologies being demonstrated for the group. OIT will continue to work with BCI Inc. of Jackson to put together educational technology shows to benefit the campus as well as other educational institutions and area businesses through out the year. We look forward to seeing you at the next event!
