What is the WOC?

OIT has received many inquiries about who and what the WOC is. While the WOC is not an OIT committee, we would like to provide some insight as to what the WOC is.

WOC stands for Web Oversight Committee. The committee is comprised of members appointed by the president's office who represent different areas on campus. Delta State University 's Web Oversight Committee was created in an effort to represent the interests of the many units that rely on web-based communications.  The Web Oversight Committee guided the creation and implementation of the University's Web strategy.

In the 2004-2005 academic year, the Committee was charged with recommending policies, establishing priorities and making changes to the University's website.  The goal of the committee was to work with SunGard Higher Education to implement content management techniques and to completely redesign the website.  The redesign was to include revised navigation, new design (look and feel), and refreshed content.

Once the website was redesigned, the charge to the Web Oversight Committee is:

  • To develop, recommend, and monitor compliance with web and web portal policies;
  • Advise web/portal support specialists and administrators regarding content, policy, design, and site architecture;
  • To foster collaborative university-wide web development;
  • To oversee the University's primary web presence; and
  • To coordinate all web sites that compose the Delta State University web presence.
