Wireless is Here!

In last weeks newsletter we informed you of a wireless internet pilot project for the Union. We said it would go live sometime in July, well, its here!

Over the past several months, OIT has been working with Jackson based Business Communications, Inc (BCI) and Cisco to move forward with an enterprise-level wireless pilot project.  The Union wireless pilot project will provide students, faculty, and staff with the ability to log on to the Internet without having to plug in to a data connection.  In order to obtain wireless connectivity laptops and personal digital assistants must be equipped with wireless networking cards.

The project will cover all three floors of the Union and provide ultimate flexibility for the campus in regards to wireless Internet access.  This first wireless project will be evaluated and other installations will follow as funding permits.  Look for future updates in the OIT newsletter.

Help protect your personal information with strong passwords

Your passwords are the keys you use to access personal information that you've stored on your computer and in your online accounts.

If criminals or other malicious users steal this information, they can use your name to open new credit card accounts, apply for a mortgage, or pose as you in online transactions. In many cases you would not notice these attacks until it was too late.

Fortunately, it is not hard to create strong passwords and keep them well protected.
