REMINDER: Attention
Faculty & Staff - University Directory Update – Your Action Required!
|
If you have not done so already, please return your employee
directory questionnaire to OIT as quickly as possible. To date, we
have received an approximate 35% response rate. This document is
important as it represents your contact information as it will be published
in the online and campus phone directories for Fall 2007. Failure
to return the information will result in directory information being
inaccurate for the 2007 telephone and online directories. Please return
the information no later than Friday, May 4 so that any changes can be
incorporated into the Banner system and be reflected accurately in the
fall directory.

Washington State to criminalize DWT –
“Driving While Texting”
|
Washington has become the
first state to pass a bill against DWT – “driving while
texting”. Representative Joyce McDonald of Washington came upon the idea to
introduce legislation to prohibit text messaging while driving after
meeting with some high schools students. With the increasing use of
technology, especially Blackberry’s and Windows Mobile phones, more
and more people are seen texting from these devices while
driving. It is expected that the Governor will soon sign the
bill into law. See the MSN article for more information.

Banned due to Cheating
Many
schools have banned cell phones, but now they are moving to ban iPods and
other digital media players from the classroom. Students are
always creative, but with the advent of technology, cheating has become
increasingly easier. Students can hide these devices very easily
and have developed some fairly creative methods to cheat. Many
students are recording the test information to an audio file and playing
that back during the test. With the ear buds hidden, teachers may
not realize what the student is doing. Some schools, like Duke University, are against banning
such devices as they are using more and more technology on their
campus. Their expectation is that the students should have
“academic integrity.” See the full article at CNN
