Project Update:
Banner Implementations

OIT has been working over the past several months to understand what SZZ reports are needed by each department.  We have collected a list of over 100 SZZ reports to this point.  These reports were all written in old, unsupported RPT code.  They will not function in the new Banner environment, therefore they have to be literally rewritten.  As you can imagine, this is a daunting task.  OIT and Collegis corporate programming resources are hard at work to convert these reports.  The old reports are still available, however, if you know of SZZ reports that you run that have not been turned into to OIT, please turn those in to OIT as soon as possible.  OIT appreciates your patience, understanding, and willingness to help with this transition process.

The digital document scanning process, Banner Extender Solutions, has been installed and testing is underway. This will allow student documents to be digitally scanned and attached to a particular student's record in Banner, further eliminating the paper trail attached to each student.   End user training was held the week of January 30 and was a great success.  A “Go Live” date will be determined by the project team and communciation will be relayed to the campus.

The Banner 7 upgrade project team is gearing up to begin the planning for the Banner 7 upgrade this summer.  Several items have to occur prior to the upgrade.  The Oracle 9i instance must be upgraded to Oracle 10g.  That process has already begun.  Upon its completion, a test instance of Banner 7 will be installed such that end users can test and explore the new version.

There are many events occurring with the Banner implementation here at DSU.  OIT appreciates your understanding and willingness to help with these upgrades and new deployments.  Your patience is tremendously appreciated.  OIT will communicate the details as soon as the details become available.

4 Ways to Take Control of Your
E-mail Inbox

Do you have an effective way to process and organize your e-mail so that you can get to an empty Inbox on a routine basis? Really, it is possible to empty your Inbox. The key is to evaluate how you are processing and organizing your e-mail and make some changes.

No doubt you've opened an e-mail and thought, "Hmmm, not sure what to do with this. I'll deal with it later!"—and promptly closed the message. If you do this over and over again, it doesn't take long to end up with several hundred (or thousand) messages in your Inbox.

Developing a new approach to processing your Inbox will help you to gain more control, improve your response time, and keep up with critical actions and due dates.

This article will cover 4 key factors that will help you process your e-mail more efficiently.

Illegal Internet connectivity in the Dorms

Students, connecting wireless access points, hubs, or switches in your dorm room is a misuse of University alocated resources and will result in the termination of internet connectivity. Connecting these devices has the potential to drop all connectivity to the dorms and the campus. In order to have internet connectivity re-enabled please disconnect any illegal equipment and come by the Office of Information Technology for further instruction.
