Manage your email by Archiving older Items

To quote Microsoft “Do you receive nagging messages from your system administrator telling you that you're keeping too much e-mail on the server? Are you perplexed every time Outlook tells you it's ready to archive your e-mail? Are you mystified by Personal Folders?  If you answered Yes to any of these questions, or if you're just curious about how filing and archiving can help you get control of your e-mail, this course is for you.”  To learn more about this process, check out Microsoft's online audio training course at   http://office.microsoft.com/training/

Loss of Data
= No Project
= Fail the course

Under no circumstances should you save your data on campus publicly accessible machines such as computer labs. The data on these machines can be removed via a number of methods and could potentially wind up in the wrong hands. Whenever a public machine, like a lab machine, is restarted, it will remove any data that has been saved on the machine. If you save your project, whether a Word document or an extensive digital photography collection on a campus computer, that data is not secure and will be removed from the machine upon restart. Believe it or not, there have been many instances of someone saving an entire semester's worth of work on a computer lab machine only to have someone steal that data and turn it in as their own. There is nothing OIT can do to help you in this circumstance. To protect yourself and your data, invest in a USB flash drive or external hard drive. Imation makes a great series of USB flash drives that have proven reliable over time. You can purchase these devices at the campus bookstore, Wal-Mart, or Radio Shack.

Okra Server will be Decommissioned

The “Okra” server (not to be confused with OkraMail) which has served as both a repository for student web pages and as the method of authentication for the Cafeteria and Hill apartments dial-up modem bank will soon be brought off-line.  The Okra server has been in production for fifteen years and is scheduled to be decommissioned during the next scheduled network outage - February 16, 2007.  There are very few active pages remaining on this server.  However, if you are the sponsor of a student organization that currently has a site hosted on this server, please contact the OIT Help Desk @4444 for assistance in relocating your organization's size to a new location.

Checking Outlook
Mailbox Size

To see the sizes of your mailbox and the e-mail folders inside it, you would click Folder Sizes on the Navigation Pane. The Folder Size dialog box appears and mailbox and folder sizes are displayed.  (this is below all of your folders at the very bottom of the pane)

Seeing the mailbox size this way can help you identify areas that you may want to "tone and trim." Remember that clicking Folder Sizes is a convenient way to find out how big your mailbox is or how much space a particular folder is taking up.

Help from the Help Desk

NTWeb Users - NTWeb users can now use their Active Directory credentials to log into their personal websites. Meaning, use your local windows username/password to access your pages on NTWeb through FrontPage or an FTP editor. Be sure to use your full username and password to log in to any NTWeb account. Example: jdoe@deltastate.edu. If the @deltastate.edu is not used an error, "user unauthorized" will occur.

Teleconferencing - Most phones on campus have the ability to make three-way conferencing or multi-conferencing calls. To do this, place a call, press Flash/Conference, dial the next participant's phone number, press Flash/Conference again. Only five participant's can be added into a multi-participant call. For more information on whether you phone has three-way or multi-conferencing ability, contact the Help Desk.

Caller ID - Caller ID can be added to your residence hall phone at a cost of only $6 per month!

Long Distance - Students can have a long distance authorization calling code for use from any campus telephone!
