Each semester, more and more DSU Faculty utilize the University's course management system by enhancing their courses to expand the boundaries of teaching and learning with WebCT.

In order to orientate new students to this new learning environment, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is conducting a series of orientation seminars and hands-on training workshops. Don't miss this opportunity to get comprehensive training and information on this e-learning platform.

Training Update:
Winter Faculty Technology Institute

To kick off the winter semester, OIT and the Office of the Provost conducted a week-long Winter Faculty Technology Institute. Similar to the summer institute, the institute is designed to enable faculty to enhance courses with web technologies, integrate best practices of web-based pedagogy, and to make courses and learning strategies more interactive and engaging through the use of WebCT and other instructional technologies.  The institute had 19 faculty participants and was a tremendous experience for all.  OIT is looking forward to the next Faculty Technology Institute to be held prior to the start of the summer semester.  Brown bag lunch sessions will also be scheduled to continue the discussion of the features contained within WebCT.  Look for more to come on these sessions in the coming newsletters.

Tips & Tid Bits:
7 Tips to Manage Your Files Better from Microsoft

You work with documents, presentations, graphics, and other files all day. And then how much time do you spend looking for files that you worked on? A couple minutes here and a couple minutes there. On a daily basis, it can all add up.

There is a better way to stop the clutter: manage your files more effectively. Managing files on your computer is a lot like managing paper files. They can be organized using folders and then stored in specific locations for when you need them. And just like paper files and folders, if you don't have a way to organize them, things can get lost.

Project Update:
SCT Banner Extender Solution

The SCT Banner Extender Solution will enable Delta State's administrative staff to scan student documents (i.e. transcripts, immunization records, and applications) in order to tie the electronic document to the student's banner record. With this functionality, faculty and staff will be able to pull a student's record and see any attached documents associated with that particular student, further eliminating the physical paper trail.

Testing is still underway, an announcement on “go live” will be forthcoming.
