Signed up for OkraAlert -
Emergency Text Messages? If you have not yet
enrolled, please do so as soon as possible. This critical service is an
essential communication for the campus community in the event of an
emergency. Sign up
and encourage others to sign up – there is no fee involved! Checked your Okramail? Anyone who
registers for classes at DSU automatically receives an Okramail email
address. Not sure of your address? Login to DSU Online Services
and look under “Personal Information” – “View Email Address”. Checkout OkraMail FAQs for more
information. Planned Event on Campus? If
you are planning an event on campus and need technology (microphones,
projectors, laptops, etc), please make sure you register your event online at
least three days prior to the event. OIT has a limited number of
technology items for loan, and it is first come, first serve! Planning
to use a conference facility on campus and needs some “how-to”
training? You may have the room reserved, but the technology assistance
should be reserved through OIT. Make sure you get your event registered as soon as
possible so that we can get you on the calendar! Especially for Faculty: Check out the ELN A special mission of the
OIT-ELN is to encourage and support teaching and learning through the
increased and appropriate use of digital media in the instructional setting
and, in particular, the instructional setting online. In addition to workshops and institutes, the OIT-ELN
provides course development and design support through its course template,
course review and graphic design/new media offerings. Please contact Dr.
Susan Hines for more information.
University Network File
storage is designed to store business documents and critical
information. As this is a finite resource, please check to make sure
that you are not storing personal or non-essential files (music, video,
non-essential documents) on the shared drives. Remember, copyrighted
information should not be stored on an University device without the explicit
approval from the author. If you are not sure, or you need assistance
in removing files off of your shared network space, contact OIT
for assistance.
(update
of article from July 2009) Delta State recently
acquired a new version of the McAfee Antivirus/Spyware protection software
that was pushed out to campus computers in late July. If you are a faculty
or staff member and using a University computer, your McAfee Antivirus icon
should have changed from the shield to ‘M’ above. Not only will you have
the latest in antivirus protection software, you will now have a tool on that
will run in the background on your computer to combat intrusive spyware and
malware. The software is a huge step in making your computer a
more secure. We anticipate it will prevent the majority of
spyware/malware problems we have seen in the past. “What
if I don’t see the new icon?” If you do not
see the new McAfee icon in your taskbar send us an email
and let us know. One of our technicians will check out your machine and
work to get you updated as quickly as possible. |
Do you have a new
employee? In order for OIT to create any accounts (email,
Blackboard, web editing, phone, etc), the individual must have completed
the HR process. Once the new employee is in the Banner system, OIT can
process their account application for network and email accounts, and provide
the new employee appropriate access to technology resources. We
appreciate your understanding and support! OIT Forms On a similar note, if
you have had an employee leave your department or the University, please let
us know so that we may make the appropriate changes on the technology side of
the house. Send an email to OIT
for follow-up.
A hardware
update is required for the storage area network that will require the
Blackboard course management system and some network storage areas to be
offline. The upgrade is scheduled for Friday, September 4 2009 from
Noon-5PM CST. The process is must be performed during business hours and the Labor
Day weekend was chosen as the most convenient time for the campus. All
services should be fully accessible by 5:00PM on the 4th.
Thank you for your patience as we strive to improve technology resources for
DSU.
DSU moved to the CCA for network connectivity via the wireless and residential halls in August 2008. To login, faculty and staff should use their network credentials and students should use their 900# and associated password (the same credentials that are used for DSU Online Services). Guest
on campus? If you are going to have a guest or an
event on campus that needs access to the campus wireless service, contact OIT
@4760 to obtain guest credentials. Hands-on
Sessions: Over 300 students have taken advantage of
the daily hands-on sessions offered by OIT. Thank you! Kudos
to the RA’s and hall directors who have done a fantastic job of welcoming our
students back to campus and assisting them with connecting to the network.
