New Faculty/Staff Training Classes Offered –Feedback has been very positive

Learned more in 90 minutes” and “informative training session”, are just a few of the comments we received following our Banner and ERIS training workshops. This week individuals have attended the Banner 101 and ERIS 101 workshops.  These sessions are general in nature and designed to provide an overview of the products while providing the opportunity for interaction and Q&A sessions.

Each session lasts approximately 90 minutes, with time for Q&A after the workshop.  Custom workshops can also be scheduled for your department or group by contacting us at 662-846-4760, via askoit@deltastate.edu or contact Chris Giger directly.

Please see the online signup page  for course details and to register for classes.  Look for more sessions to be added soon!

MCBS00135_0000[1] OIT Project News

Emergency Text  Messaging
In a partnership with the Student Government Association and DSU, OIT is implementing an emergency text messaging service in April.  This service is designed to provide emergency notifications for DSU constituents and is a voluntary online enrollment.  Look for enrollment information and details on the service to soon arrive in your inbox and be posted around campus.  We strongly recommend that everyone signup to make sure you receive any emergency notifications that come from the campus.

Classroom Technology Updates
A number of classrooms are scheduled for updates in the very near future.  These updates will provide for technology presence in the rooms including projection, sound and computing capabilities.  Renovations will begin in April with completion estimated by June 2008.

Campus Directory
Your campus telephone directory profile will soon be distributed to you for updates and changes prior to the publication of the directory in the fall of 2008.  Joanna Barnes will be reaching out to everyone to make sure their information is updated and current for the next publication.  When you receive your letter, please make sure you provide your updated information as soon as possible!

 askoit@deltastate.edu

College students like to play X Box in their spare time or watch funny videos on the internet. Why is my connection sometimes slow?

The University has a limited amount of bandwidth for all network activities – academic and non-academic, on campus and off campus.  Online gaming, streaming video, instant messaging, and downloading all use a tremendous amount of bandwidth.  At any given time there could be 500 or more students connecting to these resources.  This utilization equates to slower connections for everyone.  The speed of your connection can be directly correlated to the number of connections viewing videos or playing games at any one time.

What can you do?

·         Turn off your instant messenger service when not in use.

·         Check for spyware and make sure you have an updated antivirus solution.

·         Play games and watch videos after peak hours.

·         And be kind to your fellow students – if you are watching videos or playing online games, you may be affecting their connection to Blackboard!
