College students like to play X Box in their spare
time or watch funny videos on the internet. Why is
my connection sometimes slow?
The University has a limited amount of bandwidth for
all network activities – academic and non-academic,
on campus and off campus. Online gaming, streaming
video, instant messaging, and downloading
all use a tremendous amount of bandwidth. At any
given time there could be 500 or more students
connecting to these resources. This utilization
equates to slower connections
for everyone. The speed of your connection can be
directly correlated to the number of connections
viewing videos or playing games at any one time.
What can you do?
·
Turn off your instant messenger service when not in
use.
·
Check for spyware and make sure you have an updated
antivirus solution.
·
Play games and watch videos after peak hours.
·
And be kind to your fellow students – if you are
watching videos or playing online games, you may be
affecting their connection to Blackboard!
