Web Site Updates – Your Action is Critical to Success!

OIT works closely with the Web Oversight Committee to incorporate recommended changes on overall appearance of University Website.  Please remember that we need your help as the content of your departmental website is determined by you!  If you are an information provider or content manager, please make sure your site is kept updated as it represents the institution to the world – including prospective students!!  The new training outline for information providers and content managers will be made available within the next two weeks.  We are here to help you and hope this new outline will provide for some great opportunities to improve the look and feel of the University website.  For assistance and training opportunities, contact Kimberly Cooley our web services integration manager.

Network Clean Access for OkraNet goes Live!  OIT has enabled Cisco Clean Access during Spring Break for the OkraNet wireless network.  The initial service will be to the wireless service only.  This product will install a small client on your computer that will help in ensuring that all machines that connect to the University’s network are up to date with anti-virus, Microsoft Windows, and other critical security updates that will help in limiting the spread of harmful viruses and spyware.  Details are available on the Okranet or Clean Access websites.

New Web Spotlight Stories Live!
As of March 14 the new Spotlight Stories are live and on the website!! Through a joint effort of the Web Oversight Committee, University Relations, and technical support from OIT Web Services, you will now be able to read new stories on students, alumni, faculty, and staff on the DSU Website.  This long awaited improvement really helps to spotlight our campus and the impact it has had on others.  Please take a moment to read over some of the new profiles and let those individuals know you saw them on the web!

Payroll Direct Deposit Email Notifications go Live!
OIT has worked with University Accounting to successfully implement direct deposit notifications sent directly to your email address.  This service will represent a significant cost savings for DSU as paper and envelopes will no longer be necessary, not to mention the man hours needed to process all of this paperwork! This email serves to confirm your direct deposit has taken place and is password protected and accessible only by you.  If you are a University employee and participate in direct deposit and do not have an email address, please complete an
Account Application Form and submit to OIT.  Questions regarding the direct deposit notification service should be addressed to University Accounting @ 4648.

Storage Area Network (SAN) - Exchange Data Moves to SAN
OIT successfully moved the Exchange data to the new Storage Area Network during Spring Break.  This is one of many changes that will occur as we move to incorporate the SAN into the University core infrastructure.  Now that the Exchange data has been migrated, OIT is working closely with SUN engineers and BCI to incorporate other applications and data stores to the SAN.  This is an enormous project and requires migration of production environments and we appreciate your support and patience as we move forward.  The Exchange move is a significant step in our progress!

Faculty/Staff – Customize your McAfee Antivirus Scan Time to fit your schedule

With the increased focus on energy savings and the varied working hours for many offices, OIT recognizes that individuals need to be able to customize the antivirus scan times on their local desktop.  Many machines are set to run a scan every day during noon or after five, which may not work for your schedule as it ties up resources on your local computer.  To customize your settings, please see McAfee Customization Page on the DSU Website.

Audio Visual Needs 72 Hours In Advance - OIT has a very limited quantity of technology equipment available to the campus for events and checkout. If you book a facility on campus and need sound or technology for your event, you must contact OIT. To ensure that we can meet your audio/visual needs, please make sure you submit your AV needs at least 72 hours in advance. Doing this will provide enough time for our event staff to determine if the resources you would like to use for your event are available and make arrangements accordingly. Events submitted after this 72 hour period reduces the opportunity for OIT to meet your needs. Reservations can be made online via the Media Service Reservation Form.

 Attention Students!  Check OkraMail Accounts!
There is a 10MB quota on OkraMail.   Over the next two weeks please use this opportunity to purge unnecessary information from your mailbox.   On April 1, 2008 OIT will put the 10MB storage limit back into effect.  This means that if you have not processed your mail to reduce the contents of your mailbox to under 10MB any email that is being attempted to deliver to you will return to the sender. It is your responsibility to manage your mailbox so that faculty and staff can correspond with you.  And remember, when you delete items, you must actually “empty” your deleted items box in order to free up space in your mailbox. If you need help contact the OIT Help Desk @4444 or refer to the OkraMail FAQ Page.  Please advise your friends and fellow students to make sure they take care of their mailboxes.

MCj03631680000[1]ASK OIT? Your Questions Answered by OIT Staff askoit@deltastate.edu

How can I quickly lock my computer?  By simply pressing the Windows key + L, you can secure your data and access to your Windows PC.  Make   sure you do this every time you step away from your computer.

Are you blocking Xbox online gaming in residence halls?
No.  During times of heavy usage on the Internet and within the residence halls, you may experience some latency when trying to play your online games.  This is a variable that OIT cannot control as you are competing with everyone who is on the campus network and the entire Internet community.
