clock-48x48.pngProject Updates

Wireless enhancements
continue on the campus.  The Roberts-LaForge Library now has wireless access available.  Coverage is throughout the facility, and guest access is also available.  Wireless deployments are underway for the atrium area of Jobe and Ewing will be next on the list.  Look for more to come!

Storage Area Network

The SAN and virtualization projects are moving forward.  Ten servers have recently been migrated to the SAN environment, providing cost savings for DSU in maintenance, energy, and improved efficiencies.  During August, the Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange environments will be migrated to the system.  This is a major step in providing a redundant Exchange environment for the campus.

Technology Classroom Enhancements

As part of the master lease funding, twelve locations on campus will be receiving technology makeovers prior to the fall semester startup.  Broom, Ewing, Gibson Gunn, Nursing, and the BPAC recital hall are all scheduled for upgrades. Thank you for your patience us as we work in the classrooms to make these improvements!

Jacob Center and State Room

The Jacob Center and State Room are scheduled for major technology renovations over the next month.  These facilities will be modified to provide true technology conference center offerings, including much improved audio systems.

Character-Map-128x128.pngWeb Enhancements Continue

In an effort to continue to improve the look and feel of the University website, OIT in coordination with the Web Oversight Committee will be making some changes on the second and third tier web pages on Friday, July 18th during our regularly scheduled maintenance window.

Level 2 and 3 pages (College and Department level pages) will incorporate a new template that more closely aligns with the new homepage.  The content will not be affected by this layout enhancement.  The current spotlight stories will be incorporated into a single “spotlight” page.  In addition to the bios and still photos, video options will be included.

Content managers are strongly encouraged to reach out to Kimberly Cooley in OIT if they need assistance with their pages!

off-line-128x128.png  Don’t Unplug that phone!

Did you know that if you disconnect your digital telephone (gray 2616 model) from the jack it may become disconnected from the PBX system and you will have to contact OIT to have the phone connection restored?  These phones have extensive internal components and are easily damaged.  If you attempt to plug a digital phone into a jack that is configured for an analog connection (beige regular push button phone) you could potentially destroy the digital set.  These devices are purchased by the departments and are not cheap!

So before you make a change, please contact Joanna Barnes in OIT and she can provide the best course of action.
