24/7
OIT Help Desk In Service!
24/7 Help Desk
– extension 4444 on campus or call
1-866-264-1465 toll-free off campus.
Delta State University and SunGard Higher
Education offer a 24/7 Help Desk for the Delta
State community. The 24/7 help desk serves as
your first point of contact for technology
support including account and password
information, login issues, report requests,
Blackboard CE6 support, and desktop
troubleshooting to name just a few. Service
requests that may require a visit from an onsite
technician are forwarded directly to the onsite
OIT staff. All service requests are housed in
the same database, which means all DSU site
staff can see any request that you call into the
main help desk number. To date, the Help Desk
has been able to resolve 85% of calls within two
minutes. |

Meet "OkraNet" - Wireless locations on
the DSU Campus
OIT continues to expand the wireless
presence on the DSU campus. OKRAnet,
the campus wireless network, is now
officially in operation. The wireless
network requires authentication in order
to access the services. For students,
use your 900# and associated password
for access. Faculty and staff should
use their Active Directory (Exchange)
user name and password to obtain
access.
At present, the following areas
have wireless coverage: Student Union,
Java City, Caylor/Walters, Kethley, Hill
and Cafeteria apartments, Cafeteria,
Natatorium, Baioni Center, Jacob
Conference Center. Look for an updated
map and additional locations to be
announced soon! |

How Do I login to DSU Online Services
and Blackboard CE6?
DSU Online Services is an integrated
system of web pages that provides
students access to their records over
the Internet. The DSU enterprise
system uses Sungard Higher Education's
Banner ERP. This system is tightly
integrated with the
Blackboard CE6 course management system
allowing you to use a single login and
password (sometimes called “PIN” –
personal identification number) to
access both
DSU Online Services and
Blackboard CE6. You will always use
your DSU 900# ID number
(faculty, staff or student)
and your associated password to login to
either of these services. Any changes
you make to your DSU Online Services
password will be reflected in your BB
CE6 online course management system
login. Additional information regarding
your DSU Online Services account can be
found on the
DSU Online Services FAQ page.
Please note:
Internet Explorer 7.0 is not supported
by Blackboard.
Please use IE6.0 or Mozilla Firefox
browsers to ensure you do not encounter
issues when connecting to the course
management system. |

OIT-ELN
Network: Your Resource for Instructional
Technology Support
OIT-ELN Network: Faculty Resource for
Instructional Technology Support
Dr. Susan Hines, the Director of Instructional
Technologies, has developed the Electronic
Learning Network (ELN) an online resource that
is a favorite place for faculty. The OIT-ELN
located at
http://eln.deltastate.edu provides
instructional technology support for the DSU
community. A special mission of the OIT-ELN is
to encourage and support teaching and learning
through the increased and appropriate use of
digital media in the instructional setting and,
in particular, the instructional setting
online.
Checkout the
ELN website as it has many features
including an instructional resource blog,
workshop schedules, information on the use of
different types of media, as well as news and
information that is especially useful for the
DSU Community.

OIT Project News & Updates
Sun Storage Area Network (SAN)
Installation
Sun arrived on campus 1/3/08 to begin
installation. Tentative go-live will be
late spring semester. The automated
backup system will be the first part of
the staged implementation, followed by
the movement of several applications to
a virtualized environment which will
result in significant cost savings for
the institution on both hardware and
utility expenses.
Preproduction BBCE6 Server
Operational -Testing server for the
course management system has been
implemented and provides a resource for
faculty to design courses in a test
environment as well as test new features
of the Blackboard system without
impacting the production environment.
Network Access Control (NAC)
Implementation - Cisco NAC has been
implemented and will go live in a staged
process beginning with residential
housing. This service ensures that only
“safe” machines connect to the DSU
infrastructure.
Replacement Cycle Continues - OIT
has replaced approximately 60 computers
in faculty and staff offices in November
and December. Additional deployments
are scheduled for the spring semester.
Banner Upgrades – Several Banner
enhancements have been made during
January, ensuring DSU is on the latest
point release and all security updates
have been applied
