Attention
Students – Action Required!
Manage your OkraMail Accounts!
It is the student’s responsibility to manage
their individual OkraMail account. Keep in mind
that faculty and administrative offices use your
email account for primary communications and
failure to manage your mailbox will likely
result with you missing critical communications
from the campus. At this time, over 600
students have email accounts that are exceeding
their 10MB email quota – which means you may not
be receiving critical email from the campus.
Although we have temporarily extended the size
to 20 MB, we still have students that are
exceeding this allotment. Over the next two
weeks please use this opportunity to purge
unnecessary information from your mailbox.
On March 21, 2008 at 4:00PM CST, OIT will put
the 10MB storage limit back into effect.
This means that if you have not processed your
mail to reduce the contents of your mailbox to
under 10MB any email that is being attempted to
deliver to you will return to the sender. It is
your responsibility to manage your mailbox so
that faculty and staff can correspond with you.
And remember, when you delete items, you must
actually “empty” your deleted items box in order
to free up space in your mailbox. If you need
help contact the OIT Help Desk @4444.
To check your OkraMail account, logon to

For information on how to find your OkraMail
address see the
OkraMail FAQ Page.

Ask
OIT
Below are two of the questions we received from
askoit@deltastate.edu
email address.
“How do I login to the “OkraNet” Wireless
service on campus?”
The wireless network requires authentication in
order to access the services. For students, use
your 900# and associated password for access.
Faculty and staff should use their Active
Directory (Exchange) user name and password to
obtain access.
“How do I reset my Active Directory and Exchange
password?”
(applies only to faculty and staff)
When logged into to your computer, press
CTRL+ALT+DEL and choose “Change Password”.
Alternatively you can go to
https://passwordreset.deltastate.edu if you
are off campus. After answering the security
questions on this page correctly, you will be
prompted to reset your password.
If you have a question that you would like
for us to answer in future newsletters, please
send your question to
askoit@deltastate.edu. Chances are, if you
have a question about technology others
might have the same question!!! |

OIT Project News & Updates
The Generator proves to be a
success:
This week, some of the campus
experienced a power outage or low
voltage due to a squirrel, yes a
squirrel, getting caught up in a
transformer between Jobe and
Kethley. Although many on the
campus experienced various power
issues during this interruption, we
are very pleased to let you know
that all campus technology services
remained online and functioning
during this time. With the Kethley
renovation, a new natural gas
generator was installed that
automatically kicks in and manages
power resources to all central IT
services in the event of loss of
power. This significant investment
has paid off more than once, and we
are appreciative that the campus now
has a full generator in place to
ensure campus operations continue in
the event of a power loss.
Sun Storage Area Network (SAN)
Installation
The hardware has been installed and
we are beginning the process of
moving data onto the SAN. This is a
huge project and will result in
significant improvements in storage
and space allocation for the campus
as well as providing a virtualized
environment for the campus. This
environment will result in
significant cost savings for the
institution on both hardware and
utility expenses.
Web Site Changes Underway
The Web Oversight Committee has
several changes under development
for the DSU Website, including new
templates, new training offerings
for content managers and providers,
and new features within the web site
content management system (SBT).
Look for more information soon!
Network Access Control (NAC)
Implementation - Cisco NAC has
been implemented and will go live in
a staged process beginning in
March. This service ensures that
only “safe” machines connect to the
DSU infrastructure and protects you,
the campus and your equipment from
dangerous exposure.
Replacement Cycle Continues -
OIT has just completed the
replacement of computers in the
Languages and Literature department
and are working with several other
departments to complete their
replacements in the next month.
Banner Upgrades – SunGard
released several new Banner security
updates during February and all were
applied to the DSU production and
pre-production servers during
February.
Classroom Technology Enhancements
– Several academic classrooms are
preparing to undergo a technology
transformation that will offer
additional
resources to faculty and
students. Classrooms in Broom,
Ewing, Gibson Gunn, BPAC, and the
School of Nursing are all included
in the upcoming renovations. Also
receiving technology enhancements
this year will be the State Room and
the Jacob Center.
New Computer Lab for Dorgan
Center – New computers are being
delivered for the Dorgan Center that
will allow our athletic program to
offer additional training and
classes in the Dorgan Center. This
facility should come online in
March. |
