Network Maintenance Window Service Outage: Friday, December 19, 2008 4:00-9:00 PM CST
(Maintenance Schedule: Third Friday of every month @ 4:00pm)

 

OIT must perform mandatory maintenance and updates on campus servers and other equipment this Friday as part of our regularly scheduled maintenance window.  Software updates for all Windows and Unix servers will be applied and some minor hardware changes will be implemented.

 

Okramail will have an extended down period due to upgrades to the system software.  Email sent to this system during this down time will be queued and you shouldn’t lose any messages during this time.  However you will experience connection issues when trying to connect to this system during the extended maintenance window.

 

Thursday, December 18, 2008 at 5:00PM until Friday, December 19, 2008 at 9:00PM CST –Extended Interruption to the following services will occur

·         OkraMail Student Mail Server

 

4:00PM – 9:00PM CST –Brief Interruptions to the following services may occur

·         Banner

·         DSU Online Services

·         Blackboard CE 6.0(course management system)

·         DSU Web Site

December 17th; You Will Be Archived!


OIT will begin a regular practice of archiving Blackboard-CE6 courses on Wednesday, December 17th. We will archive the academic year 2007-2008 to free up server space; the archives will be backed up to disk, then removed from the course management system. If you wish to keep "working copies" of your courses online (to revise and stage for the next iteration), please, if you haven't done

so already, set up your master copies soon. Visit

Faculty selected to attend January's Faculty Technology Winter Institute include: Addie P. Herrod, Nursing; Lynn Varner, Leadership and Research; Sondra Rakes Pedersen, Teacher Education; Trey McClure, Commercial Aviation; Teresa Houston, Finance; Tom Taylor, Educational Leadership; Page Logan, Social Sciences; and Carlysle Meek, Biological and Physical Sciences. Cohort participants will meet from January 6-9, 2009 to work on instructional technology projects, such as online courses, test databases, and podcasts.

 Important Banner Announcement

 

Are you receiving the “Web Client too old” error when logging in?  An update to the java plugin that is used to run Web Banner was applied.  This one time installation needs to be performed to keep your software current.  Some have experienced this error as a result of the upgrade. There is a simple step that OIT can walk you through to correct the error.  Please contact OIT at 4760 for help, or simply follow the steps below:

 

Click on “Start”

Click on “Control Panel”

Double Click on “JInitiator 1.3.1.xx” icon

Click on “Cache” tab

Click on “Clear JAR Cache” button

Click on “Yes” button

Close out JInitiator Console (click ‘X’ in upper right corner)

Close out any I.E. browsers that may be open

Try accessing Banner again.

User Active Directory passwords may be set in 1 of the following 2 ways:

1. Press Ctrl, Alt, Delete simultaneously on the user's PC.  Select the option for "Change Password".

2. While on any campus PC, direct your browser to:  https://passwordreset.deltastate.edu/

You will be presented with the option to provide verifying information before the password is reset.  This information must be correct according to your information in Banner.
