off-line-128x128.png Telecomm Bills Online!

Beginning the week of October 27, those persons who are the primary points of contact for telephone invoices will receive your invoices online!  The new billing system eliminates the need for the old dot-matrix reports that you have received in the past.  If you are the primary contact for your department’s telephone invoices, you will be receiving an invoice from Joanna Barnes in telecommunications with detailed information on how to log in to the system and view your invoices.  We have been running the old and new systems parallel, so the first invoice you receive will reflect the August-September billing period.  The second invoice, scheduled to be emailed to account managers on November 7, will reflect charges for the September-October billing period.  We are excited to offer this service online, as well as helping to save trees as we move to a paperless billing environment!

cid:image005.jpg@01C935DA.B8070420 Clean Access Update

Many of you have noticed the clean access agent, the software used to securely connect to Delta State’s Campus network, asking you if you want to upgrade to the latest version. This is an OIT recommended update that allows support for even more antivirus applications and their latest updates. Currently, most major antivirus suites are supported. If your antivirus has recently stopped being recognized by the clean access agent due to an update, simply choose “yes” to update the clean access agent after logging in and follow the steps as instructed. If you are in need of assistance with clean access, please call the 24x7 OIT helpdesk at ext. 4444 or schedule an appointment with our network services staff.

Biology, Sociology, and Music, Oh My!

Instructional Technology Challenge (ITC) Grants were awarded to faculty in biology, social science and music this month. Faculty were funded for technology purchases that will benefit specific teaching and learning projects. The projects funded this year are: Alan Barton's "Assessment and Professionalization in the Social Sciences: Incorporating Students into Evaluation of the Division and the Discipline," Shelley Collins' "Applied Instrumental Music Lessons: Providing Feedback and Self-Assessment Opportunities," Ellen Green's "Teaching Collection Databasing Part II: Insect Inventory of Dahomey National Wildlife Refuge," and Yasuhiro Kobayashi's "Development of Virtual Animal Dissection Manual."

Just In Time For Fall Break:  Spring Course Shells

Spring 2009 course shells are now available to faculty in Blackboard-CE6. To reduce the clutter of courses when you log in to the course management system, you may wish to hide some courses from view. Here, again, are the steps for doing so: 1) log in to Blackboard-CE6, 2) click the pencil icon (to the right of the Course List header), 3) on the Edit Course List screen, put a check next to the courses you wish to hide from view, then 4) scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Hide button. 5) To get back to your My Courses screen, just click on the My Courses tab.

microsoftLog.jpgMicrosoft Critical Patch Issued

As most of you know, Microsoft issued a critical patch  on October 23 for all Windows based machines.  While we have updated the campus domain computers (those that log in to deltastate.edu), home users, students, and those outside of the University domain should take action immediately.  More information on the patch and how to apply it at home can be found on the Microsoft website.  As always, see the OIT service updates page on the website for updates and critical information.
