Microsoft updates are remotely installed on computers on the Delta State network as a regular function of security updates for faculty, staff, and lab computers. Unfortunately, Microsoft changed the categorization of their updates, which resulted in Internet Explorer 7 being installed to campus PCs (and subsequently uninstalled!).
IE7 does not work well with either Banner or Blackboard and is not deployed on the campus for this reason. Once these vendors fully support the IE7 or even the new IE8 browser, DSU will revisit the browser option.
IE6 is fully compatible with all Delta State University web applications which includes Web Banner, Blackboard CE 6, Outlook Webmail, Site Builder Toolkit, and other applications. While other browsers may run these applications, OIT cannot guarantee full functionality.
Banner 102: Population Selection
Banner 102 focuses on how to implement the population selection feature in Banner to pull only those records that meet a desired criterion for reporting or letter generation processes.
Banner 102 training will be offered 3 times during the month of April. All sessions will begin at 2:00pm.
To sign up for training, click here.
Training is also available for Site Builder Toolkit (SBT). Two sessions are held each month, and individual one-on-one training is available. Simply contact our office at 4760 for more details or visit the OIT website. Additional dates for training sessions will be posted soon!
A Real (and Virtual) Space of Your Own
The
OIT Lab (in Bailey Hall 114) is reserved for faculty use every day,
from 8:00 am to 12 noon. Folks are on hand to help you with just
about anything related to instructional design or e-pedagogy. |
Mississippi has been hit by a nasty text messaging scam that claims to be from Regions Bank. Recipients receive a text message on their cell phones (providers vary) advising them to call a 1-800 number to discuss their bank account at Region’s. In actuality, this culprits are tricking individuals into providing their debit card number, checking account number, and even their personal identification number. No legitimate banking institution would ever ask you for this information – they should already have it! To read more about the Region’s scam, check out the story on WAPT.com. If you receive this or other type of scams via your cell phones (known as “smishing”) telling you to contact a phony number (known as “vishing”) contact the Attorney Generals Office immediately!
As the campus is in the midst of a very busy season for University conferences and events, please remember to visit our online media reservation page to secure the technology required to help make your event successful. If your event requires more technology than what's listed or you are unsure of the technology you might need for the event, please feel free to contact our Media Services team to request an assessment. If you will be holding your event in one of the campus conference centers, we will be happy to work with you to arrange a time to provide training on the use of the equipment located in these rooms. Please understand that there is a limited quantity and type of equipment available, and equipment is provided on a first-come, first serve basis. OIT strongly recommends a 72-hour advance reservation in order to reserve equipment. Details on who can reserve equipment are located on the online media reservation page.
Critical updates to servers will be applied. Brief outages may be experienced during this timeframe.
