Phase II of the new telecommunications call accounting software goes “live” this week!  OIT is excited about providing billing information at your fingertips, while also saving many trees!  The online billing process is designed to provide you easier access to your telecommunications billing information.   The procedure to access your telecommunications billing information will be sent in a separate email to all campus offices. Once you receive the information, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact Joanna Barnes at 662-846-4760 or Joanna Barnes

If you have a personal long distance account and you have ownership of the department bill, you will receive two emails.  Although you will no longer receive paper invoices, the online system provides you the capability to print the information from your desktop if you would like a paper copy for your records.

If you do not have a long distance access code for office or personal use, please contact Joanna Barnes for information on how to obtain an access code.

cid:image008.jpg@01C9903B.885E6E50 Free Music and Movies are not Free!

Many people believe that the music and movies they download for “free” off the Internet are really free.  Software programs like Limewire, Gnutella, and BearShare encourage the user to download the application onto their computer to retrieve “free” movies and music off the Internet.  Downloading these items can be a violation of federal copyright laws and individuals can wind up in court or prison for violating these laws.  College campuses across the country continue to be under scrutiny for copyright violations.  In an effort to curtail this abuse, the recording industry has created the Rhapsody website, similar to iTunes, where access to music and movies is legally available at a reasonable price.  To learn more, check out the Rhapsody FAQ website.

·         When accessing sites on the internet and conducting business online, never provide your credit card information to a site that is not preceded by https://.  The “s” in this entry indicates that the site is a secure site, meaning that your information is protected.  Providing your credit card or banking information to a site that is not secure, leaves you open to potential identity theft!

·         When you leave your office or room, make sure you lock up!  It only takes a second for someone to log access personal or work information, or worse, to walk off with your belongings!
