The Delta State University Delta Belles began in 1957 under the leadership of Band Director Ralph Franklin. Mrs. Dorothy Franklin assisted in the training. They were a group of twenty-six dancing majorettes and performed precision dance steps as they marched alongside the Delta State College band. Now the Delta Belles can be seen dancing with the Pride of the Delta at every home football game, performing fun routines at student pep-rallies, and marching in DSU and community parades.
The Delta Belles perform a variety of dance styles throughout the season. At home football games, the Belles dance alongside the Pride of the Delta Marching Band. They are featured in a jazz/precision style routine during the half-time show, and dance pom routines in the stands to cheer on the Statesmen. At student pep-rallies, the Belles show off more contemporary/hip-hop routines to get everyone pumped up for the games.
Scholarships are awarded to each member of the team. Scholarship offers may be made only after a student has been admitted to the university. More information about music scholarships.
