Dr. Hankins

Dr. Paul Hankins is Professor of Trumpet at Delta State University. Dr. Hankins earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree from West Texas A & M University and the Master of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas. He was director of bands at Jefferson Middle School in Abilene, Texas before attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in trumpet performance. Dr. Hankins served at Augustana College prior to his appointment at Delta State University. His major teachers include Michael Ewald, John James Haynie and David Ritter. Other influential teachers include Bert Truax, Don Jacoby and Leonard Candelaria.

Dr. Hankins is an active performer and clinician nationally and internationally. He has performed with numerous orchestras including the Mississippi Symphony, Delta Symphony, Tupelo Symphony, South Dakota Symphony, Sioux City Symphony, the Eisenstadter Sommeracademie Orchestra-Austria, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Sinfonia da Camera, Danville Symphony, San Angelo Symphony and the Abilene Philharmonic. Additionally, Dr. Hankins presented performances with the Augustana College Concert Band on tour in South Korea, China and Japan.

His professional memberships include the International Trumpet Guild, Phi Beta Mu, Kappa Kappa Psi and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
