Staff Council’s Employees of the Month for 2002

Christie Harrison

January 2002

Delta State University is honoring Christie Harrison, Senior Secretary in Student Financial Assistance, as the Staff Employee of the Month for January. Harrison, a native of Cleveland, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1991 when she began her employment here as a secretary in the Telecommunications Department. She moved to her position in Financial Assistance in 1997. A graduate of Bayou Academy in Cleveland, Christie continued her education at MDCC. She is currently working on a Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at DSU.

Jane Waldrup

February 2002

Delta State University is honoring Jane Waldrup, Head of Circulation at the DSU Library, as the Staff Employee of the Month for February. Waldrup, a native of Ruleville, graduated from Ruleville High School and attended Mississippi Delta Community College. She is presently pursuing a degree in Management at Delta State University. Jane Waldrup began her career at DSU on July 1, 1981, as Circulation Clerk in the W.B.Roberts Library. In 1984, she was promoted to Library Assistant in the same department. Promoted again in 1996 to her current position, she now manages the operations of this public service department and is responsible for patron registration, materials check-out and check-in, stack maintenance, the Reserve collection and copy services.

Jo Ellen Ferguson

March 2002

Delta State University honors Jo Ellen Ferguson, Administrative Bookkeeper in University Accounting, as the Staff Employee of the Month for March. Jo Ellen is a native of Charlottesville, Virginia, graduated from Louisa County High School and attended Oxnard Community College in Oxnard, California. She is currently pursuing a Business Administration degree at Delta State University. Jo Ellen came to Delta State with banking experience from The Valley Bank in February, 2000. She is responsible for the data entry of all daily transactions into Banner, reconciliation of bank accounts, payroll processes, and many miscellaneous reports.

James Marquis

May 2002

Delta State University is honoring James Marquis, Electrician at the Physical Plant of Delta State University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for May. Marquis, a native of Hollandale, has been a member of the Delta State staff since 1992 when he began working part-time for Golf and Grounds. Later, in 1994, he transferred to Telecommunications as an electrician/telecommunications assistant. In 1997, he began working as as electrician for the Physical Plant. Marquis has a degree in electronics technology from Mississippi Delta Community College.

Karen Haney

June 2002

Delta State University is honoring Karen Haney, Telecommunications Senior Clerk at the University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for June. Haney, a native of Cleveland, has been a member of the Delta State staff since September 2000. She graduated from Bayou Academy in Cleveland and is currently pursuing a degree in Consumer Relations at DSU. Karen’s mother, Judy, works in the School of Nursing, and her father, Robert, recently retired from the DSU Police Department.

Crechale Stevens

July 2002

Delta State University is honoring Crechale Stevens as the Staff Employee of the Month for July. Stevens, a resident of Cleveland, graduated from Clinton High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi College. She was first employed at Delta State in March 1998 as the Senior Secretary in the Bologna Performing Arts Center and in June 2001 was promoted to the position of Administrative Assistant at the BPAC.

Kristi Pantin

August 2002

The Incentives and Recognition Committee of Delta State University’s Staff Council is honoring Kristi Pantin as the Staff Employee of the Month for August. Pantin, a resident of Cleveland, graduated from Bryan High School in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Delta State University in 2000 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. She was first employed at Delta State in March 2001 as the Senior Secretary in the Admissions Office. In August 2001, she joined School Relations and Recruiting as an Enrollment Counselor. Kristi is currently working on a Master of Business Administration degree at Delta State.

Margie Millican

September 2002

Delta State University is honoring Margie Millican, Purchasing Agent at the University, as the Staff Employee of the Month for September. Millican, a native of Bolivar County, has been a member of the Delta State staff since September of 1981. She began her career here as the Executive Secretary for Purchasing and was promoted to her present position in July of 1993. She is a graduate of Merigold High School and has taken business courses at the University of Mississippi and computer courses at Delta State University.

Jason Umfress

October 2002

Delta State University is honoring Jason Umfress, Coordinator of Student Development, as the Staff Employee of the Month for October. Umfress, a native of Hatley, Mississippi has been a member of the Delta State staff since July of 2001. He began his career here as the Coordinator of Student Development in the Division of Student Affairs. He is a graduate of Hatley High School and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in CIS from Delta State University.

Sharon Kuhn

November 2002

Delta State University is honoring Sharon Kuhn, Alumni Senior Secretary, as the Staff Employee of the Month for November. Kuhn, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been a member of the Delta State staff since March of 2001. She began her career at Delta State in the Alumni Office and continues there today. Sharon is a graduate of Churchill High School and Pollock’s Beauty School in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Patsy Burchfield

December 2002

Patsy Burchfield, Administrative Assistant to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University, was honored as the “Staff Employee of the Month”, for December 2002.  Burchfield has been a member of DSU staff since 1988 when she began work as a part-time secretary for the Delta Area Writing Project.  In 1992 she became the secretary for the department of Economics and Finance.  She served as the publications secretary for Academic Affairs from 1995 until she took her present position in 1998.  Burchfield attended Holmes Junior College and later received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from MSU.  She is a resident of Cleveland, MS.
