Q: How do I go about getting a personal or student long distance code
A:

Personal codes for faculty, staff, and students can be obtained in person at the OIT Telecom Office, Bailey Hall 102. A campus ID and campus PO Box are required to establish service. A code card, dialing instructions, and applicable information will be given at the time of request.

Q: How do I get a department long distance code?
A:

A department can obtain a code request form @ http://oit.deltastate.edu or one can be faxed to them. Once the form has been completed, and signed by both the authorized user and department head, an account will be set up. A code card, dialing instructions and other applicable information will be sent via campus mail. In addition, the code can be e-mailed to the department head upon request.

Q:

How long will it take for my new code to be activated?

A:

Once the completed request form has been returned, a new long distance account should be completely processed by the end of that business day.

Q: What are the long distance calling rates?
A:

8am to 10pm – 15¢ per minute
10pm to 8am – 10¢ per minute
Holidays – 10¢ per minute
Weekends – 10¢ per minute

*International rates will vary. Contact Telecom for a specific rate.

Q: Why is my long distance code not working?
A:

There could be a number of reasons that a long distance code is inactive. These calls should be logged in HDO for further investigation by Telecommunications.

Q: I forgot my personal/student long distance code. Can you tell me what it is?
A:

No. Codes cannot be given out over the phone. Anyone requesting their personal/student code should come to the OIT Telecom Office with a picture ID.

Q: I forgot my department long distance code. Can you tell me what it is?
A:

No. A request to reissue any department long distance code should be sent via e-mail to Joanna Barnes from either that authorized user or the department head.

Q: How can I pay my long distance bill?
A:

Payment should be made to the OIT Telecom Office by mail to DSU Box 3123, or in person at Bailey Hall 102. Methods of payment include cash, check, money order, Visa, or MasterCard.

Q: Can I get an additional phone or data line installed in my dorm room?
A:

We cannot install an additional line at the student’s request. The Housing Department would have to make that request.

Q: How can I add caller ID to my phone?
A:

Caller ID service is available at an additional cost of $6 per month. This fee is paid to the Telecommunications Office by the student in advance for the whole or remainder of the semester. All caller ID accounts are terminated at the end of the semester.

Q: How do I go about having a data line installed in my department?
A:

A data line installation is a one time fee of $75. The OIT Telecom Office will need to send the requesting department a requisition for approval?

A:

A telephone installation is a one-time $75 fee plus local service. Telecom will need to send the requesting department a requisition for approval.

Q: How long will it take to have a new phone or data line installed?
A:

The department approved requisition must be returned before installation can be scheduled. All requests are handled on a first come first serve basis, in consideration of high priority cases.

Q: How much is local service for the digital 2616 telephone in my department?
A:

Local service for digital telephones is $42 per month, charged to that budget at the beginning of the fiscal year. Local service for mid-year installs is billed at the time of requisition.

Q: How much is local service for the analog telephone in my department?
A:

Local service for analog telephones is $28 per month, charged to that budget at the beginning of the fiscal year. Local service for mid-year installs is billed at the time of requisition.

Q: How can I get voice mail for my department?
A:

The process for implementing voice mail is not yet complete, but we are compiling a list of names and campus phone numbers that would like to have this service.
